Contractors, facilities managers, property groups and fleet operators often need many signs and pieces of traffic control equipment at once, and need to reorder them reliably. Buying in volume takes some organisation, but a clear process saves time and avoids missing items. This guide sets out how to approach a larger order.
Build a schedule first
The most important document in a bulk order is a schedule. A spreadsheet works well. For each line, list:
- Sign code or product name
- Size (for example 600, 900, 1200 or 1500 mm)
- Material and finish
- Mounting: sign only, sign with unistruts, sign with stand
- Quantity
- Location or site, if the order covers more than one
If you are not sure about a line, mark it clearly so we can help. Read how to order road signs for the decisions behind each column.
Standardise where you can
The fewer variations, the simpler the order and the easier the reordering. Choose a standard material and finish for each type of sign across all your sites. This also makes the signs look consistent. See choosing sign materials and choosing the correct sign size.
Build standard kits
Contractors who move from site to site benefit from a kit approach. For example:
- Site entrance kit: notice and mandatory signs, a site board, a stop or yield sign
- Roadworks kit: temporary roadworks signs, stands, cones, delineators and barrier tape
- Excavation kit: barriers, tape, hazard signs and manhole barrier gates
A defined kit lets site teams check what they have, and lets you order identical sets for new projects. See temporary roadworks signage and construction site signage.
Traffic control products in volume
Our traffic cones and delineators and barriers and traffic control products are often ordered in quantity. Think about storage and transport: cones nest, barriers take space, and water-filled barriers need filling on site. Consider how many sets you actually need to cover simultaneous sites, plus a few spares.
Quote-only items
Guardrail, guardrail end terminals, crash cushions, wire rope safety fence and truck-mounted attenuators do not have an online price. They are quoted individually, so send site details and quantities through request a quote.
Custom items in volume
If your order includes custom signs, finalise the artwork and wording before you place the order, and have one person approve it. Reusing the same approved artwork for repeat orders avoids mistakes. See ordering custom signs and preparing artwork for printing.
Compliance and approvals
For signs and equipment used on public roads, confirm requirements and permissions with the relevant road authority or municipality. For workplace signs, your health-and-safety officer should sign off the list. We supply products; we do not certify that a product meets any specific requirement for your project.
Delivery and installation
Large orders need planning for delivery, unloading and storage. Find out what is available on the delivery and collection page and let us know if you need delivery to more than one site. For installation across many locations, see planning sign installation and book a survey or installation.
Plan for reorders
- Keep your schedule and update it after each order
- Keep a register of installed signs; see caring for and replacing signs
- Review usage every few months to set sensible stock levels
- Name one person to place orders so nothing is duplicated
What to include in a quote request
Attach your schedule, site locations, deadline, delivery or collection preference and whether you need installation. The more complete the information, the quicker we can respond.
