What regulatory signs do
Regulatory signs tell road users what they must or must not do. They are the signs people most often need on private roads and in yards: stop, yield, speed limits, no entry, no parking, one-way and similar instructions.
What is in this category
R1 and R2: the stop and yield signs.
R100 series: command signs, such as direction and speed instructions.
R200 series: prohibition signs, such as no entry, no turns and no overtaking.
R300 series: reservation signs, for example lanes or spaces reserved for particular users.
Where they are used
Estate entrances, factory and warehouse gates, shopping centre and campus roads, depots and any internal route where traffic needs clear, consistent rules. Using the standard format means drivers recognise the message immediately.
Choosing the right sign
Start with the code
Search by the SARTSM code if you have it, for example from a site plan or a replacement request. If you only know the message, browse by series.
Pick the size for the speed
We stock typical sizes of 600, 900, 1200 and 1500 mm. A 600 mm sign works in a car park; for longer sight distances or faster traffic, go larger.
Choose the material
ABS plastic is light and easy to handle. Chromadek steel is more rigid, and reflective Chromadek helps with night-time visibility. Aluminium substrate is another option for a flat, durable face.
Decide on mounting
Choose sign only if you have existing posts, sign with unistruts if you will bolt to a pole, or sign with stand for a movable position.
A note on public roads
We do not state that any sign is approved for public roads. If the sign will be on a public road, confirm requirements with the road authority or municipality first.
